oh...I like this idea!!! I'm going to have to do it and post it on my blog! I love's your blog my dear! Always get the old brain chugging!! :-)
I love the idea! I'll do it on my blog. I love books, too!
I am delighted to see that "The Los Angeles Diaries" has been included as "a book that will stay with you."
Ironically, I became a fan of James Brown's writings as a result of being probably one of the oldest fans of his brother, the late Barry Brown (an incomparable actor of the 1970s.)
James Brown's writings pull no punches: they're raw, gritty, real.
They don't embrace any "feel good"
philosphy; the cavalry doesn't ride to the rescue, and there are no contrived happy endings (although "The Los Angeles Diaries"
does express a promise of hope.)
In fact, a new book of his memoirs
has been either just published, or is currently in production; in any event, preliminary reviews have
all been rave reviews. I'm looking forward to getting a copy just as soon as it becomes available.
James Brown's books are dark, brooding, tragic - distilled from
lifetime memories of loss and sorrow. But once you have read them, you are forever changed; you can never go back. You are seeing
reality through the eyes of a man who has been tested in the crucible of life - but prevailed.
It was very nice to meet you tonight =) Your book list looks like it's right up my alley. I recently picked up Stieg Larsson's 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' series and I was wondering if you've read them and, if so, what did you think? I haven't even cracked the cover yet... but soon!
